A Letter to our Students who have just Submitted their First Applications TKG

A Letter to our Students who have just Submitted their First Applications By: Caroline KoppelmanTo our students who have just submitted their first applications:  CONGRATULATIONS! We are so proud of you! You’ve worked hard and have made sure that everything was ready to submit. We know you’re stressed and probably nervous about hearing back from where you’ve applied, but just relax and listen to what we have to say.  At TKG we like to promote celebrating the little things. You’ve finished your common app essay. Congrats! You’ve finished all of your supplements, organized all of your recommendation letters, and filled out the common app requirements. Not many other people can say the same. Take a minute to revel in all of your success.A lot of you might be feeling like, “now what?” because the bulk of your last few months has been spent focusing on the college application. But, before we get to what’s next, you have to think about all that you’ve already done. Here is our argument for why you should be proud of yourself:  At the beginning o f this process, you didn’t know how to write a personal statement or answer any supplemental questions. You struggled through brainstorming, put in hours of work and finally created a finished product that you can be proud of. You’ve grown a lot, and you need to recognize it.  To gain further perspective on just how much you’ve down let’s looks at how many parts of the college application there are:Transcript  Difficulty of the classesDifficulty of schedule within the context of your school  SAT/ACT scores  SAT2 scores  Teacher rec 1Teacher rec 2Guidance counselor rec  Supplements for that schoolCommon app essay  Common app section 1Common app section 2Common app section 3Common app section 4Common app section 5 (activities supplement)After reading through this list, we’re sure you’re going to double check your submission one last time just to see if everything is there. Trust us, it is, but it’s natural to want to look back at your work. However, you might be wonderi ng what happens when you find that one mistake. Are they going to reject you because you accidentally capitalized something or used the wrong word? If you’re looking for a reason to freak out in this moment, or over the next two months, you’ll find one. There is no way your entire application is flawless because nobody’s is. We’ve known students who have forgotten a word or phrase in their app and have still gotten into Penn, Michigan, and Emory. You’ll be fine.  If you consider how much work you put into all of those 15 parts, it’s only reasonable that you find a mistake within at least one part. Also, when you think about things retrospectively, you will always be able to find flaws in what you did. They say hindsight is 20/20, right? You could’ve spent more time, you could’ve been more creative, and you could’ve had one more person edit your essay. But, these thoughts are unproductive and can lead you into an anxiety spiral. Deep down you know you did enough. St op fixating on things you can’t change. Also, the person reading your application doesn’t want you to be perfect. They want you to be quirky, weird and flawed so that they are confident in your ability to grow once you get to their institution. It’s not their goal to find spelling mistakes, grammatical errors and logical incoherency. They just want to find students that fit the community of their school. With that perspective, we urge you to enjoy this time. It’s a weird time -- you might feel like you’re in limbo, but that’s okay. Get your regular decision applications in order in case you don’t get in ED/EA because this might be a reality that some of you might face. If that is the case, you’ll be happy you prepared for the worst-case scenario. All in all, we want you be proud of yourselves. If you’re reading this and you’re one of our students, you know how proud we are of you. We know it’s weird to feel proud at this moment of uncertainty, but applying to coll ege is a milestone. So try to be happy! In the end, wherever you end up is where you were meant to be.

The Revolution Of The United States - 865 Words

From 1900 to 1920 a political group called the progressives demanded change and more government involvement after the gilded age where there barely was any action taken by the government. While the progressives were becoming more and more popular among politicians and people they brought reform and change to the United States. The progressives brought change through industries, social movements and the economy. The progressives, (as their name suggests) brought progress to America that forever changed the United States for the better. Without the progressives Americas change to more government involvement for the time being would never have happened thus showing the American people what is truly â€Å"American†. As the industrial age was booming and factories were abundant among the United States, progressives thought about what was unfair in America and came to the realization that something had to be done about factory conditions. The idea of unfair labor treatments was brought to the courts many times but the most significant was Hammer v. Dagenhart (Document G). The supreme court struck down the Keating- Owen child labor law which reduced child labor in factories for kids who were under 14. Now instead of being born into a job that your parents have or just taking the quickest job you can to get money, kids were more likely to go to school and diversify their intelligence (document C). Principle of Economics Ponzi Scheme

Questions: 1. A bubble. A Ponzi scheme. Please define these two concepts as they apply to the housing market, giving full details of any sources you use. 2. New building approvals are growing at an impressive clip. Complete the diagram below explaining the consequences of the above scenario on the Australian housing market.3.Deregulation in the financial sector provoked increased competition to write loans. Explain how this scenario can increase economic welfare.4.What is an oligopoly and why is the Australian banking sector referred to as a cosy oligopoly? (Give full details of any source you use.) Answers: 1. Ponzi scheme is an investment scheme that provides incomes of former investors because of finances recognized from later investors. There has always been a false impression regarding the fact that Ponzi scheme is a sort of financial pyramid. However, both of these approaches are examples of dishonest investment schemes. The schemes pretend to be critical organization promising high profits in a short period. Most of the banks in Australia have treated the housing market as a Ponzi scheme (Colozza, Marmi and Nassigh 2015). The banking system in Australia has improved a continuous growth model. This shares an equal risk profile as a Ponzi or a pyramid scheme. On the other hand, according to Gjerstad and Smith (2014), an economic bubble is a circumstance in which individuals trade in goods. They also trade resources for amounts that are larger than their natural values. When the price of houses increases due to increase in demand, it leads to housing bubble, in the face of limited supply. 2. Figure: Australian housing market (Source: Created by Author) The graph illustrates that due to bubble that leads to increase in the housing prices, the supply for houses are likely to decrease as the supply curve shifts from S to S1. According to the article, the property prices in Sydney largely depend on the balance between supply and demand of housing. Increase in prices in Sydney has been impressive over the last two years. That in turn led to slower economic growth. 3. Deregulation of the financial sector is mostly taken to indicate the variety of legislative as well as economic events. Deregulation is likely to increase economic welfare, as it is able to deregulate savings as well as deposit rates. It also removes lending controls and opens the financial markets up to a higher competition. This will in turn generate billions of dollars of advantages to the savers of Australia. Deregulation has also led to considerably greater competition, loyalty, and reality of the financial system. Proceeding to deregulation, governments sought to use the banking system. This is to achieve objectives of monetary policy (Korinek and Kreamer 2014). 4. An oligopoly is a structure of the market that comprises of small number of firms that has a greater part of market share. An oligopoly is equal to that of monopoly however; there are more than one firm that controls the market. The banking sector is mostly considered as a cosy oligopoly where the individuals in Australia turn their back on smaller lenders (Beena 2014). The banking sector in Australia is not under a competitive market structure as a lesser number of firms mostly control the banking industry. References Beena, P.L., 2014. Tex Richard Essays - Jack Dempsey, Tex Rickard, Rickard, Joe Gans

Tex Richard Tex Rickard: the story of his life. The man who was known as Tex Rickard, was born on Jan 2, 1870 with the byname of George Lewis Rickard. He led a life of different jobs, I guess you could say he was a jack of all trades. His life, or the part of it that dealt with the gold rush, was what I would say as, short lived. After raising cattle in Texas, and ruling a little town as the town marshal he decided to move on to something different. He moved to a small city in Nevada called Goldfield. Goldfield was a boom town, which came about with the help of gold, and the fact the Rickard set up a casino. Now Tex didn't make his money by mining for gold in California or in Nevada, but instead he was a professional gambler, and fight promoter. It is his final profession that he decided to stick with, and to say the least, he was most prosperous in this final job. As a fight promoter his life was very active. To publicize the community he decided to promote the world lightweight title fight b etween Joe Gans and Oscar Nelson. The fight was a long one, not only was it more then the normal 12 rounds, but it was nearly 4 times the normal, being 42 rounds in length. This would be the start of something big for Rickard. In 1920 he gained control of Madison Square Garden, and in his new arena he would stage the first million dollar fight, this would be the first of five million dollar crowds. Rickards achievements didn't just come to him by luck. He made boxing a sport for all races and both the sexes. He appealed to the racism in people by posing a black against a white. He also aroused the patriots in the country by fighting a draft dodger and a war hero, along with this he set a American against a foreigner. He was the first promoter to understand the people, and who was able to control large crowds. All in all, he was a fighter, gambler, miner (in the Yukon), and a promoter, and was prosperous in all. He helped to change the face of the west by controlling where the peop le went, and helped California to grow, making him a very important man in the history of California and the United States.

Technology And Education Essays - Information Technology

Technology And Education Essays - Information Technology Technology And Education Technology: A Tool For Education More and more each day technology infiltrates deeper into our daily lives and routines. In fact, it has become such an integral part of society, that mass hysteria and panic would undoubtedly ensue should it suddenly be taken away. To allow technology to take control would surely lead to a disintegration of society. Today, most classrooms are connected to the Internet or at the very least contain computers to help educate the nations children. Technology, although useful, is only a tool and must be used wisely in regards to the education of todays youths. Technology holds the promise of delivering vast amounts of information in a very short time. The Internet alone contains a plethora of information for anyone who has the desire and ability to use it. With just a click of a button a person can surf the web finding information ranging from aardvark to zygote. The speed in which information flashes across the screen can be dizzying. Although general information is readily accessible, obtaining specific data can be frustratingly difficult. Just the other day, I was on-line searching for information regarding to peritonitis. As is typical, I logged onto a search site and typed in the subject I wanted. The search found and displayed about a dozen sites related to peritonitis. However, it also displayed more than three or four dozen sites on topics ranging from colon cancer to feline leukemia. I cant figure out just what relation feline leukemia has with peritonitis. As far as I can tell, theyre like apples to oranges. Too often these searches seem to take the user to sites that only contain links to other sites, with links to yet other sites, and so on. It took me nearly an hour to find specific information providing detailed signs and symptoms of peritonitis. I never could find anything regarding actual treatment procedures for the disease. Maybe I should have taken a five minute drive to the library and looked in an antiquated encyclopedia - it would have been faster and easier. Dont get me wrong, Im not saying that technology is a bad thing, but there are negatives to every positive. Technology does offer an array of options, including those for educational purposes. Many college students are now able to take courses via television, cable, and the Internet - only attending classes on campus for taking exams. Although this form of education provides more scheduling flexibility, it deprives the student of being able to contact their professor readily. While in an on-campus class, if a student has a question on the material being studied, they can simply ask their instructor for clarification and receive an immediate response. Contrarily, by taking a television or Internet course, the student would have to e-mail the professor and wait up to several days to receive a reply. School is not just a forum to learn facts and theories. One of the principal functions of school is to teach children how to behave in groups (Postman). In other words, by attending school children learn how to interact with others in a positive and constructive way. By allowing technology to take over the education of our children we deny them the feeling of being included as a member of society. For without social interaction, society itself no longer exists. At one time, many years ago, dialing 0 on the telephone connected them to a living, breathing person on the other end. Several years later technology took over and one had to navigate through a myriad of computerized menus for information, bringing forth complaint after complaint from customers. Currently, various phone companies advertise how one can now dial 0 and get a living, breathing person on the other end. Although technology can provide a nearly endless supply of information, it cannot provide the tools necessary for understanding. A computer can simply display facts, insight can only be learned through interaction with others. If a child cannot comprehend a concept, a computer will not be able to re-explain things in a fashion the child understands; it can only repeat the data. Only through personal interaction with another person can information be modified into a context the child can understand and appreciate. Knowledge, certainly in the humanities, is not a straightforward matter of access, of conquest via the ingestion of data (Birkerts). Children today often know how to operate a computer better than their parents. Educational software, designed to captivate

The Assortment of Products in ACT II Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

The Assortment of Products in ACT II - Case Study Example The company is goal oriented to keep their customers with constantly changing its brands as per the changing trends in the current market situation. It ensures customers satisfaction and guarantees over its high-quality production. In order to be steady in the market its product prices are lower in the market (Kerin, Hartley & Rudelius, 2011). In addition, production of zero fat corns is among the strategies the company has diversified into to adapt to the current market. A number of channels of distribution arose for ACT II popcorn so that it could reach the preferred market and satisfy the various diverse needs of the consumer. A diagrammatic representation shows as below. ACT II popcorn can be distributed to the vendor machine on the first instance, and then the consumer can be able to get it. Secondly, it can be distributed to the vending machine and through the agent; the consumer can obtain the product. Lastly, the product can be distributed to the drug stores then the various vending machines available in the drug stores and via the agent; the product is able to reach the destined consumer. The marketing strategy that the Conagra foods company should use is market segmentation. Market segmentation is the case in which the whole market is divided into many market niche i.e. small markets which can easily be captured and controlled by the company. The pricing model should be from the small amounts in order to cover all the consumers. This strategy would help in the business becoming a leader in distribution. The grocery mode of distribution is not able to cover all customers and so there should be a number of modes of distribution. A number of challenges accrue when there are expansion and growth in the business. Foreign tastes, cultural differences, distance and trade regulations. Different consumers would have different tastes and preferences in their life cycles. This is because of the civilization and their lifestyles. It can also be due to income levels.

Domestic and Community Violence Essay Example for Free

Domestic and Community Violence Essay Domestic abuse and child abuse cases have been on the rise in the recent past causing child and human rights activists to seek for ways of containing the situation. Previous studies have concluded that the cases of child abuse and domestic violence have risen in America and the world at large because of poor approaches used to contain them. In addition, the shocking news that more than 1,200 children die each year due to child abuse and a good percentage of them are girls less than 16years is worrying both parents and teachers. The rise in violence prevalence has been attributed to; poor child upbringing, poverty, modernization, lack of knowledge and neglect because studies have proved that abused ‘children’ will abuse their children in future etc (Nocav and Bourbonnais, 2002) The following issues indicate different stories; First, the U. S Advisory Board on Child Abuse has suggested that both child abuse and domestic violence may be the single major precursor to the main fatalities in the country hence the seriousness of the matter. This has come at a time when a survey conducted early this year found out that school age children who witness and exhibit violence of any form not only in their families but also in the churches, towns or schools suffer from problems such as; anxiety, depression and violence towards their peers. This calls for urgent strategies to prevent and address them at once. The best of them is the use of teachers to counsel the abused children, report suspected cases or take any necessary action that will be suitable. Teachers and domestic violence initiative program It has been noticed that more and more cases of child and domestic violence go unnoticed because of stigmatization or fear of retaliation especially by children. The main solution according to this program is to use the interactive ability of our teachers in schools to strictly follow any cases of suspected child abuse either directed to the child or to the parents. Children are very talkative especially with good interaction with their teachers are golden opportunities that can be used to assist those fighting the vice to get access to unreported cases. The objective of this program is to improve system and community responses of abuse of children and their families. All people today face the challenge of developing enhanced policies and programs to meet the increased need for curbing child abuse cases. This program will therefore ensure that members of the community respond immediately to allegations of child and women abuse. This report will deal with a program suitable for teachers in our schools to be in the front line in preventing domestic violence in our society. (Lupton and Power, 2002) The program considers the motivational tactics of getting teachers interact with their children outside the classroom and that they get the opportunity of knowing the problems children undergo while in class. It is obvious that children’s performance while in class reduce especially for abused children. In this program, teachers especially those teachers who teach children in lower grade classes will be taken through training sessions on how to interact more effectively with their students in class. The training sessions will also include learning the signs of domestically abused of sexually abused children The program will involve the utilization of services from survivors and activists who will keep the tracers well informed and properly equipped with the skills to handle, report and discuss cases of violence through the children. In that case, the children will be able to inform their teachers that their parents were quarrelling last night, they were raped last week or even misused over the weekend. These and other reporting tactics will be fundamental in helping the police to further investigate the allegations. As long as they will be funds to help schools identify troubled and troubled children at an early stage, it will be possible to rectify any impacts that might have been created by the abuses children go through. This program will therefore go a long way in boosting reconciliation and cutting incidences of crime and violence in our schools and society. When children are troubled and very disruptive in schools and at home, that is a sign of warning that children are either not being taken care of or they are experiencing some bad habits at home. It is then that teachers, parents and counselors come to look for causes of the wearied behaviors. The program described above will help in ensuring that such kind of strategies is achieved. (Nocav and Bourbonnais, 2002) Conclusion Teachers have a role to play in eradication domestic violence and child abuse in our society. They can do so by creating close interactions with their students who will then reveal what happens behind the curtains either to themselves or the house-help or any of their parents. Since the teachers will be given the opportunity to learn more about social and domestic violence, then it will be possible to change social and institutional norms that perpetuate family violence in the future. Together with other domestic violence programs, child welfare agencies and community organizers everybody can take part in forming effective collaborations and build partnership that will at the long run promote safe and health families. Philosophy Essay -- Socrates

There are three different parts of elements in one’s soul called: Reason, physical appetites and spirit due to the inner conflict. Each part of the soul is doing its own job. A man can have two different responses from his inner world when he has a conflict to decide. For example, a man was thirsty. He wants to drink some water because his appetite is telling him that he needs to quench. While his reason part will list out all the rational reasons for avoiding him from drinking, such as the water can make you sick. When the man’s desire was higher than reason then the sprite will appear to support with appetite (138). However there is another situation when the spirit will help reason out. â€Å"When the soul is divided into factions, it is far more ready to be up in arms on the side of reason† (138). Reason can consider as wisdom because it is the leader of the soul. It gives rational orders for spirit to follow, so they could work together to hold the appetite s. Then spirit can symbolize courage because the spirit is not afraid of against enemies in order to carry out its mission for holding the appetites in all circumstances because appetite is like the many-headed of the monster as it mentions in Chapter XXXIV. The many-headed symbolized the divided mind of the monster. It needs the lion to help the man to control the many-headed monster since the power of the man will be weak when there are many desires of the monster. Hence, the man symbolized the reason and the lion symbolized the spirit. Moreover, there shouldn’t be any internal conflict between these three since they are all doing a great job. This phenomenon of performing good cooperation is called temperance. According to Socrates â€Å"the reason for all this is that each part ... ... careful since once people had chosen for the character they want to be such as be an animal or human being, and then it’s their duty to be responsible for their decision. At the end of the story it tells the part when people pass through the River of Unmindfulness. That all the people â€Å"Required to drink a certain measure of this water, and some have not the wisdom to save them from drinking more. Every man as he drinks forgets everything† (359). Which means if a person drinks too much water then he will not remember that there always has penalty for being unjust, thus his moral will not going to be increased because he will keep doing unjust thing and thinks there is no punish for it. In conclusion because of immortality, people understand the concept of being unjust need to bear the punishment, which helps a person, can have better moral understanding.
